Welcome to
Fairfield University's
Theatre Program
The Fairfield University Theatre Program offers both classes and productions in our robust curriculum.
We foster a positive learning environment where students explore their creativity both onstage and offstage. Students may participate in all aspects of play production, whatever their major/minor.
The Quick Center for the Arts is our performing home.
Our theatre classroom is in Canisius Hall, Room 15.
It's award season!
We recently inducted two theatre students into
Psi Rho Alpha, the Visual & Performing Arts honor society
Kylee Faulkner, Theatre & English double major
Katharine Gutkoski, Theatre & Women, Gender, Sexuality Studies double major
Theatre students were also honored at the
Meditz College of Arts & Sciences Award Ceremony
Julie Learson, our Costume Director, was honored with the

Why Study Theatre?
Why Major/Minor in Theatre?
Why would I major or minor in theatre?
At Fairfield, you can major or minor in theatre. Either way, you’ll take courses that teach you about Theatre as its been practiced through history and around the world. You’ll also get lots of chances to do theatre right now, as:
- actors
- stage managers
- designers
- playwrights
- directors
- dramaturgs
- crew members
- hanging lights
- sewing costumes
- building and painting sets
- supporting actors backstage during performances
Theatre majors can also double major!
Some examples are:
- English
- Psychology
- Sociology
- History
- Philosophy
- Communication
- Languages
You can even double major with the School of Business or combine with an Education minor.
A Theatre minor fits with
everything.
What can you learn doing theatre?
Most people would say acting.
At Fairfield, you can absolutely learn to act. But you can also direct, paint scenery, write plays, hang lights, sew costumes, and so much more.
By having fun doing shows at Fairfield, you can also learn to:
- Solve problems
- Think creatively
- Be curious
- Manage projects
- Work with others
- Write more clearly
- Explain ideas to others
- Understand what makes people tick
- Get a group of people to get something done
- Manage your busy schedule
- Develop empathy for others
- Research
These are skills that will get you a job
in any field.
What about internships?
You can apply for internships with Theatre Fairfield, which will teach you about organizing crews, marketing shows, managing audience relations, and much more. In other words, you'll get real life experience in the business of theatre.
In addition, you can do internships in London, New York, or even right here in Connecticut.
When you graduate, you’ll be prepared to keep working in theatre, as many of our alumni have done. Or, you can become a manager, lawyer, educator--and much more. You will have learned empathy, people skills, and how to get things done. That’s useful anywhere.
And while doing all this, you'll love every minute. Just ask our students.
Are you ready to come play with us?
